Project Progress Journal

I researched last Monday for about an hour and I also did some research last thursday for about an hour. Joe, Brodie, Brian, and I got together before hand to discuss who would be doing what for the project/presentation. We also got together this past Saturday and Sunday to collaborate. We took all of our research and created questions for our Jeopardy game and discussed how we would present our product. We did that for about an hour and a half each day over the weekend. We will be getting together tonight as well to put everything together and practice our presentation.

Halloween

It's that time of year again for everyone, of all ages, to dress up, either to go door to door in search of candy, or just for a costume party. Halloween has always been one of my favorite days of the year. Its always so fun to see what everyone dresses up as. I always went trick-or-treating when I was younger, but now I like to party with friends, "get a little hopped up, and make some bad decisions."-Wedding Crashers haha. I'm just kidding-sort of.

It's That Time of Year

Around this time of the year, the weather becomes colder and people tend to get sick more often. I am getting quite the cold and cough and it is not fun. I'm pretty sure that Brian gave it to me because he is sicker than me. Everyone needs to make sure they are washing their hands often and eliminating germs by sneezing into their sleeves and by not sharing any food or drinks. That is how easy sicknesses can spread from one person to another. So be careful and try not to get sick!

College Pranks

Everyone knows how funny it is to prank a friend. A couple of my friends and I pranked Brian the other night while he was in the shower. We took one of the two huge trash cans from my room and filled it completely to the top with ice water. We then proceeded to dump it on him in the shower. It was hilarious. Brian came back into the room and just said, "payback is a bitch." Later in the night after Brian found out that Cody dumped the water on him, he dumped a cup of water on him while he was dropping a fat deuce! It was epic.

Peer Review

I think the most beneficial question from the peer review is whether or not you have a thesis statement. A thesis statement previews your entire paper and gives insight to what is to come in the paper. It needs to show which literary elements are included througout the paper. I don't think that too many people in class today even know what a literary element, let alone a thesis statement. This question will defnitely help out everyone in the class earn a better grade on this paper.

No Texting While Driving For Federal Employees

President Obama just recently passed a law that federal government employees cannot text while they are driving. A couple stipulations are that they can't text while using government vehicles or cell phones and they cannot text in their own cars with personal phones if they are conducting federal business. The Obama administration also plans to extend this law to truck drivers who travel across state borders for the safety of everyone on the road. I think this is a good idea, but I am not sure how it will be enforced. It seems like it is not planned too well.

Song Analysis

I have chosen a song for this assignment and I'm pretty sure there is some meaning behind it, but I am uncertain of the exact requirements. I know that I have to analyze the song, but I don't think that the analyzing part of the assignment was explained enough for us to complete this paper. I guess I'm in college now and I have to learn to do more on my own!

2009 NY Yankees

The Yankees are very fortunate this year for their tremendous streak of good health. Four of their top players including Alex Rodriguez, Jorge Posada, Hideki Matsui, and Mariano Rivera are all recently back from surgery. They all have recovered well and have had no post-surgery problems. That is not always the case. Many times people who have surgery struggle for a little while after. Derek Jeter is also in that mix. He is getting older every game. They are at the top of the "bigs" right now and I hope they can go all the way. It has been a few years since their last World Series win and I think it is time for #27!

Halo

I thought I would post about my horrible attempts to beat Brent Clements in Halo. No matter what I do, I just cannot win. He is really good and he knows it. He likes to rub it in. I would say if I were keeping a running total, he would be beating me 20 wins to none. I am getting better but obviously not good enough to beat him. The sad thing about this is that I am the one who always wants to play. Every time I ask him to play, he laughs, then says, "do you really want to do this to yourself again Bowser?" I always say that I am going to beat him just to joke around, when I really know what the outcome is going to be. Defeat!

Ishmael Beah

I was not sure what to expect from Ishmael as I walked to Emmens. I thought we were only going to talk about his memoir because it was our freshman reader. I liked the way he discussed his life with us, giving many details, and adding some comical relief to such a serious topic. However, I am a little upset that we did not get to hear him rap because I am a fan of hip/hop. Even though I love the rap music today, I like his take on it that there is no deep meaning behind the lyrics. His way of delivering his speech was very enjoyable and interesting. He kept my attention for the entire time, while keeping me on my toes, waiting to hear what he would say next. I loved him coming here and sharing his story with us.

Breaking Gehrig's Record

Jeter, now three hits away from beating Lou Gehrig's record, did not have a promising start. In reality if Jeter has a great game, he could beat the record with a multiple hit game. However in the double-header a couple days ago, he went 0 for 8. He had a few hits that looked like they may have squeeked through the infield but the other team made amazing plays, robbing him of a hit or two. He obviously will break the record. I just hope he doesn't go through a horrible slump and doesn't break the record for a long time. He is one of the best in the game so that is not likely. We'll have to wait and see how he does in the next few games.

Jeter looking to surpass Gehrig's record

Gehrig, at the age of 35, was battling a degenerative neurological disease, which is now known as Lou Gehrig's disease. He struggled his entire last season with very few hits. Eventually he ended his stellar baseball career with 2,720 hits to his name. He was a captain for the New York Yankees and seen by the world as one of the baseball Gods. Another future hall-of-famer, Derek Jeter, now in his fifteenth season in the league, he is approaching Gehrig's all-time Yankee hit record. Jeter now has 2,713 with many more to go. He is very healthy and always has been. If he stays healthy for the rest of his career, not only will he pass Gehrig, but he will reach 3,000 hits; a major league milestone! I have been a Yankees fan for as long as I can remember and I'm pulling for Jeter to finish his amazing career with a bang.

Adolescence

Everyone remembers how good it felt to be going to their grandparents house when they were younger. Well I felt the same way. Every day, for six years, I went to my grandparents before elementary school. My older sister and I were curious every morning what our grandma made us for breakfast. When we got to their house we would sit down at the kitchen table and finish any homework we had while we waited for breakfast to be ready. My grandpa worked for Bank One downtown. I can visualize him putting his tie on in the bathroom next to the kitchen. He had a daily routine and so did we. I can remember these early mornings like it was yesterday. Time flies and you don't even realize it.

My Day

Today was pretty good. Aside from the fact that I had to wake up extra early for an 8:00 class, I was done early, which I'm starting to love about college. I actually completed a math assignment on my own and figured out something that was confusing to me; it was as simple as emailing my english teacher my URL for my blogger homepage! I'm pretty hungry right now and soon I will be satisfying that hunger with some delicious Ball State food! I'm a little skeptical about this post because I'm not sure if we were allowed to blog about our day, but I'm sure Professor Dighton will allow this since it is our first post (hopefully). : )
