Ishmael Beah
I was not sure what to expect from Ishmael as I walked to Emmens. I thought we were only going to talk about his memoir because it was our freshman reader. I liked the way he discussed his life with us, giving many details, and adding some comical relief to such a serious topic. However, I am a little upset that we did not get to hear him rap because I am a fan of hip/hop. Even though I love the rap music today, I like his take on it that there is no deep meaning behind the lyrics. His way of delivering his speech was very enjoyable and interesting. He kept my attention for the entire time, while keeping me on my toes, waiting to hear what he would say next. I loved him coming here and sharing his story with us.

Cory, I was expecting the same thing. I thought it was just going to be a rehash of his book, but it actually turned out to be very interesting. I really wish he would have rapped for us. He could have been like a mini version of Lil Wayne without the piercings and tattoos. I really enjoyed the performance and it kept me on my toes, as well.
