Jeter looking to surpass Gehrig's record

Gehrig, at the age of 35, was battling a degenerative neurological disease, which is now known as Lou Gehrig's disease. He struggled his entire last season with very few hits. Eventually he ended his stellar baseball career with 2,720 hits to his name. He was a captain for the New York Yankees and seen by the world as one of the baseball Gods. Another future hall-of-famer, Derek Jeter, now in his fifteenth season in the league, he is approaching Gehrig's all-time Yankee hit record. Jeter now has 2,713 with many more to go. He is very healthy and always has been. If he stays healthy for the rest of his career, not only will he pass Gehrig, but he will reach 3,000 hits; a major league milestone! I have been a Yankees fan for as long as I can remember and I'm pulling for Jeter to finish his amazing career with a bang.

  1. Although i'm a huge fan of the game, i can't say the same about the Yankees. I'm aware that this post isn't necessarily about the Yankees, but rather Jeter and Gehrig, I think that they more or less "buy" championships with their seemingly infinite amount of money. However, reaching the 3,000 hit milestone in baseball is a huge deal so it is hard to root against somebody trying to acheive that goal, regardless of the team they play for.

  2. I must say, I'm pulling for Derek Jeter even though I despise the Yankees. I'm not a big baseball fan, but I hate how they get whoever they want whenever they want. On the other hand, Derek Jeter is one of the most classy athletes in sports today. He is very marketable athlete. You see him in just about every commercial on ESPN. Not only is he a great hitter and leader for his team, he is a great fielder as well. He basically told A-rod to go to third base because I'm a better shortstop then you. Derek Jeter has a great future and I hope he achieves the hit milestone very soon!
